About this website

The Michigan Pet Fox is apart of a larger project, spanning the entire United States. We are dedicated to posting as much information on the care and keeping of foxes as pets.

The Michigan Pet Fox focuses on the four "common" pet foxes:
Red Foxes, Arctic Foxes, Gray Foxes, and Fennec Foxes.

The Michigan Pet Fox is a sister website to a Facebook group, "Michigan Pet Foxes". Feel free to join to ask questions, meet members from Michigan, and share your fox's story.

Any questions? Feel free to contact us!

About the Administrator

The current owner and administrator of this page is Renee. The Michigan Pet Fox has been a "work in progress" for her since late 2012. Curating and maintaining a place where Michigan pet fox owners could easily access information regarding legalities is something very important to her.

Renee currently works as a Pet Care Technician and part-time dog trainer. She also attends university, though her major is undecided. When she isn't working or at school, she is often out training with her dogs, Merlin the Rat Terrier and Eren the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Though she does not currently own a fox, she hopes to get her first kit in the spring of 2017.

Contributors

Jodie has kindly prepared all of the United States laws regarding Red Foxes. She has put forth a lot of effort into maintaining her pages and making sure each state has the most up to date legal information. Soon, she will begin work on the legalities for Gray Foxes, Arctic Foxes, and Fennec Foxes. Jodie is currently a student at a local university, studying Environmental Sciences with a concentration in Environmental Sustainability and Resources Management. She hopes to also obtain an Associates Wildlife Biologist certificate from the Wildlife Society after graduation. She currently resides in Southeastern Michigan, with her pet silver fox, Loki.

Alyssa has done an enormous amount of research to create the Red Fox color guide. After exploring the genetics behind each color, she has put together the most complete Red Fox color guide to date. Each color was heavily referenced, from both live and deceased specimens, to create the most accurate coat color representation. In addition to working on the color guide, Alyssa's website also features a blog that focuses on all aspects of fox ownership. From diet to enclosures to rehoming to toys and stimulating, the blog will cover it all. Alyssa currently attends university and is working towards a degree in Simulation, Animation, and Gaming with a possible minor in Biology.

About Loki the Fox

Loki is a silver Red Fox. He was purchased from a USDA licensed breeder in another state. Loki's favorite thing to do is hang out in the backyard on his zip line. His favorite treat is a tie between cantaloupe and Zuke's Mini Treats- Rabbit flavor!  He is a beloved pet, here in the state of Michigan.

I took most of the photographs displayed on this website when he was two and a half years old. Some photopgraphs were taken by his owner.

About Miehiera the Fox

Miehiera is a polar Arctic Fox. She is brown/gray in the summer and white in the winter. She was purchased from a USDA licensed breeder in another state. Miehiera was a cherished pet, but due to some extenuating circumstances, she had to be rehomed. She currently lives at an animal sanctuary with her "boyfriend", Burton. Miehiera's favorite activity now is sleeping under the lean-to in her enclosure and sometimes making crazy noises at passersby.

Photographs of Miehiera were taken by her owner.

About Killua the Fox

Killua is a gray fox from Lost River Game Farm, born 5/1/14. He currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio. He was raised alongside a cat named Toki, and they are best buds. Killua has been dubbed "the floppy monster" because he will flop onto your feet when he wants belly rubs! Check him out on Instagram @thecat_and_thefox !

About Kenya the Fox

Kenya is a Fennec Fox. She was born 4/14/14. Her owner says that Kenya will go nuts over blueberries or baby puff snacks and that she "is the queen of the house". She has a few favorite toys that she likes to throw up into the air and then chase. Kenya LOVES her ball pit. She enjoys jumping inside of it and try grabbing all of the balls to run off and hide. Kenya also loves other animals small or big. She'll even wrestle with the big dogs because she's fearless!

Photographs of Kenya were taken by her owner.
